Warming up Berlin: “Corteo” première at Cirque du Soleil

Art, Special

Warm up your tambourines for what is coming in our next issue Wow Berlin: yesterday I went to the première of Corteo, the new Cirque du Soleil, that is starring in Berlin. What I have to say is that I was not only impressed but also surprised by the show.

So you know more about it, Corteo is the 5th Cirque du Soleil’s spectacle. It’s been created and directed by the suiss Daniele Finzi Pascae and represents a cortege, but no regular one, once it’s shown as a clown delirium, so it looks more like a celebration then a funeral.

The presentation seems to float and offers the audience the same feeling, with a 360º spinning stage, in which more then 260 different costume pieces beautifully parade. Also the chandelier scene is amazing for its more then 4000 brilliant jewels, that assembles illusion and reality.

The circus tent has been put up in the northern downtown area of the city, and has brought along 62 artists from 25 different countries, besides the 150 people for the production. According to them the set up takes around 2 weeks to be accomplished. The duration of the spectacle has an average of 2,5 hours of a really exciting presentation and no heart can bear it without its 30 min. pause!

Cirque du Soleil usually stays 3 months in each place it goes and, after Berlin, it goes to Hamburg arriving in march in São Paulo, Brazil, where it stays its longest season, visiting  Brasília, Belo Horizonte, Rio de janeiro, Curitiba and Porto Alegre, going later to other countries  in Latin America.

It is definitely worth it watching, for you will certainly be passionate and daydreaming. Watch here the first part of the presentation and prepare your heart for the show! 😉
