Who doesn´t love their own hair? It often defines and states us for who we are, as it is always a big fashion trend to have beautiful and stylish hairdo´s. It can be short, punky and blonde to beautiful long curly brown hair with golden highlights, every person has their hairstyle and now a days like to change it more often than a chameleon can in a year.

If you stand in your local drugstore, hairdresser salon or hairdressers whole sale you can find over thousands and thousands of products. But which ones are actually good for your hair?

Most products sadly enough aren´t and it´s not always about being cheaper or expensive. Did you know a good shampoo doesn´t foam as much as most do? A lot of brands put Sodium Lauryl Sulfate in their products, which is basically used in industrial cleaning products. It´s written on almost every bottle of regular shampoo so you easily know which one to buy or not. It´s a very cheap product that foams a lot and even becomes thicker when mixed with salt. Salt that is in your hair from sweating for example. So when you lather up, your mind is basically being fooled thinking your hair is becoming very clean when in fact all this foam is just nothing more than a show. Now we love a good show, but preferably on t.v. or in a matinée and not in the shower. And if you know they use these products as anti-motor grease or aggressive floor cleaning-products? That doesn´t make you very happy now, does it. And this will neither. Sodium Lauryl Sulfate will penetrate into your skin and stay in your body for 5 days. It has been proven to cause premature hair-loss and even cancer. Scientifically proven to be a damaging substance. I say no to that, thank you very much.

Another unhealthy component is silicone. Now at first it isn´t all bad, because it keeps your hair from drying out, it protects your hair from U.V. rays, pollution and other things, and keeps your hair soft. But the problem is it also is very difficult to wash out, and usually when you wash your hair you simply apply another layer of silicone, and another, and another. Eventually it ends up with more greasy hair and a dry scalp that can become irritated, red and even flaky. Silicone and paraben products are also easy to find on the bottle explanation. The words usually end up in –cone, simple as that. Some examples: Cetearyl methicone, Trimethylsilylamodimethicone, Amodimethicone, Cyclopentasiloxane and Dimethiconol.

One of the most common I´ve seen is Dimethicone. But for the silicone there is some hope. There are silicones that can be dissolved in water, so it´s more easy to rinse out. You can find them easily because they have the word PEG in front of them ( PolyEthene Glycol). This product cleans out grease, oils and thicken products. But the other fact is… it´s also  chemical product used in industrial cleaning as well. If used to much it can damage the moist level factor by stripping it, leaving the immune system more vulnerable. All facts! So in the end, say no to silicone!

So what is the solution? Let me explain.

First of all, if you want to keep with store bought products you can find some brands that sell Paraben-, Silicone- and SLS free products. They often advertise for it being all natural. Let me introduce to you some brands and their natural lines.

-René Furterer. This innovative brand already exists since 1957 and is also called the Sisley of shampoo. Why? Because they use only ethereal essences and natural ingredients in their products. The whole line consists of natural beautiful products and they last you a long time since you need to use only a little bit every time and mix with water. Some shampoos are recommended to dilate them; 1/3 of shampoo 2/3 of water, so 1 bottle actually makes 3. The philosophy behind their products and I quote:

“Beautiful hair grows from a healthy scalp, like a plant in fertile soil”-René Furterer.

-Oolaboo is a Dutch company born in 2011. Since 2013 they also brought out luxury hairlines, all natural, without any damaging substances, but only healthy natural and beautiful products. Their philosophy is all about respecting skin and hair and using only the best ingredients for their products. They believe in nutricosmedicals; nutrition+cosmetic+medical, which basically is providing nutrition from outside and inside with bio-active supplements. Yes, also capsules you take as vitamins, all is possible at Oolaboo.

-Kiehl´s. Who doesn´t know this brand? Mothers, grandmothers and even great-grandmothers probably know about Kiehl´s founded in 1851 and started as a New York pharmacy. But that doesn´t mean this brand is old fashioned. No, actually quite the opposite. After 162 years they are still innovative and always researching for new natural products. They search all the world for natural, botanical products that are assured to be beneficious .

ss03kieh455018298-nocolourThese are just the top 3 and are proven to be all natural in all the products. But there are more brands that have a separate segment with natural shampoos and conditioners. Fuente, L´oreal All Pure, Vichy and Andrélon all have special products as it is a rapidly developing fashion that more and more products should be chemical free. If you invest a little time in choosing your products you can go a long way to benefit yourself and be more nature-respecting. I guess Mother Nature has been consulting a lot of brands over the last year!

Another very trendy system these days is the “conditioner only” system. It´s basically washing without shampoo and only conditioner. If you don´t use any styling products, this is the way to go. If you have unruly hair, you can definitely use this treatment since it makes your hair a bit more heavy and soft. Conditioners contain very soft ingredients that help the scalp and hair. It´s sulfate free because a conditioner is not meant to foam but if you use silicone based products then forget about it, because sulfate is basically the remover for silicones. It´s another double standard. So regular shampoos contain both the sulfates as the silicones, why would anyone want to use them? But we can still thank the developers of all natural brands for providing us with amazing products that respect nature´s laws. AMA-zing!

see you soon!
