Jesus Pastor a photographer from Spain based in Berlin was invited to join the WOW for this issue to register with his sensibility the living room and the residents of this 3 different houses in 3 different neighborhood in the German Capital, his personal style made him get awards and recognitions in many international photography contest.
WOW – A passion for photography runs in your blood. How did this passion emerge?
JP – I guess everything started when I was 14 or 15 years old. I loved watching Billy Wilder movies on television, which were only broad casted in black and white. Also, my father used to work with a Medium format called Yashica, which inspired me a lot. From then on, I started shooting portraits and developing them in my own black and white laboratory. I believe this started my passion for photography, which later became the focus of my life.
WOW- Why did you went to the world of photos?
JP – Photography has been my school. It has become my way of expression, passsion, and balance. It offers me a way through which I can explore the outside world and freeze moments in the form of a personal diary.
WOW – You have an amazing portfolio. Among your work you are collecting remarkable Photography Prizes, such as Ribbon FIAP and brennpunkt. Is there any contest you like to participate the most? Why?
JP – There isn´t a contest in particular. My method is finding the contests, which most suit my style of photography. Of course, competitions always require a bit of luck, as there are wonderful photographers involved in these competitions and the level of quality is very high.
WOW – We know you made an incredible portrait with nuns. Could you please tell us about that work?
JP – This project is called “Women and Silence.” Several photographers were part of this work, however, I concentrated on portraits of nuns because for me, they represent the clear connection between women, inhabited silence, and spirituality.
WOW- And what about the portrait of the bullfighters? What inspired you?
JP – Since I have been a small child, the symbol and meaning of a bull has fascinated me a lot. My holidays and the celebration “San Juan” in my hometown, have influenced my work a lot.
