Everybody knows the song “The Girl from Ipanema”, written by Tom Jobim and Vinicius de Moraes, two big names when it comes to Brazilian music, specially Bossa Nova. Although I wonder if all of us who like to listen this music, know who was the beautiful girl they sing about…
The name of the musa who have inspired Tom Jobim and Vinicius de Moraes is Heloísa Eneida Menezes Paes Pinto, known as Helô Pinheiro. Back to 1962,
Vinícius and Tom used to go often to Bar do Veloso, in Ipanema, where they used to meet to get some inspiration and to look forward to see Helô Pinheiro walking around the streets of Ipanema. Her beauty bewitched the composers and inspired them to wrote this song.
Helô is now 68 years old and a businesswoman. She is the hostess of a healthy program for seniors and meanwhile she organizes beauty contest and her clothing stores, under the name “Garota de Ipanema”.
In 2003 she posed together with her daughter Ticiane to Playboy Magazine.
Past August 2012, the song “The Girl from Ipanema” celebrated 50 years.
